Bits & tidbits

Wow, bummer. I feel like my elementary school education is in peril.

We looooove our Mukka Express. So yummy, so easy to clean, sooo good.

I went to a workshop at the Manhattan Center yesterday given by Edward Tufte, who is to information design what Jakob Nielsen is to web usability. In other words, he is the man. And I got all four of his books as part of the conference fee, which is awesome. And it was a day “off”, which is always a good break.

We bought our surrogate wedding rings yesterday in the East Village. The ones we really want are just way out of our price range right now and needed a lead time that was almost longer than our engagement, so we figured we’d just go for the gritty version for now and get the real ones when we can.

Other wedding things are coming along. We’re doing what we’ve termed the “burn party” on Saturday night with Ken and Sarah at the apartment. W00t w00t.

We’re in single digits today.

You went to the Tufte thing?!?! Did work send you or did you self-fund the conference?

IAM paid (I technically work for them too), and “work” gave me the day off. :)

    That’s so friggin’ awesome.

You know, I’ve been starting to wonder if I should just self-fund one really sweet tech conference per year, like SXSW. Work generally won’t pay for it unless it directly applies to what I’m doing, but you’d figure the networking opportunities would pay a return on the investment.

Still, Tufte in NYC? I’ve got Envisioning Information, which is always fun to flip through from time to time.

    Alissa,

Ive been wnating to say this for a hiwle .. so now I’m saying it.. I enjoy the fact that you and Tom seem to be more of a couple that doesn’t really care tht much material things for your wedding and marriage. Thats a great thing. Sadly, its a rarity to see an intrest in things that matter more like family, growing with one another in love. I know part of it is due your dad’s illnes, but still I appreciate and enjoy to see people who care more about real things of life then just getting “everything” that is offered in the world. Well that is long enough of a post there.

    Blessings,
    Ry
